皆々様お元気ですか？こんな体験は我が人生79年になりま すが、全く初めてです。3月16日に実施しました『映画同好 会』（黒澤明監督作品「用心棒」）以来、ロンドン市内には入 っていません。「70歳以上は自宅に居る」ことになってほぼ ３ヶ月になります。この間家内と二人で「ガーデニング」と 「趣味のコテージ造り」を愉しんで来ました。屋根の部分を 本格的に入母屋方式に傾斜をつけ、明かり窓も付加して見 ました。外壁の塗装、内壁は赤、青、ピンク、白と大胆なペ ンキを塗って見ました。お陰様でこの秋には『アトリエ』『木 工細工ルーム』『カラオケとプチ映画館』が完成するめどが 出来ました。皆さんが来てくれる様に仕組んでまいります。
さて、従来から楽天的な性格ですので、「テ レワーキング」による、新たなテレビ電話の 活用方法など日本人会の仲間たちと勉強 会、即実行して愉しんでいます。みんな熱 心で文化活動の一翼を担うべく リアリテイーのある『川柳』 から、新型コロナウイルスに対する日本、英国、イタリア、ス ペイン、ドイツ、フランス、そしてアメリカ、中国の指導者の 品定めなど、誠に楽しい議論も続き深夜までディスカッショ ンもしました。毎日の様に二人して麻雀をし、名作映画を見 直しています！『野菊の如く君なりき』で泣かされ、植木等、 渥美清に笑い飛ばされ！腸捻転になりそうです！！！

私は、retirement flat(=apartment)に住んでいる。移り住 んで１年半ほどして、コロナウイルスの危機が騒がれ、３月 半ばには「70才以上の者は、自己隔離をするように。」と言 う政府の指示が出され、その旨を書いた手紙まで送られて 来た。米、パスタ、豆腐、冷凍の鮭・鶏、調味料、サラダドレッ シングなどの買い置きはしたものの、新鮮なパン・野菜・果 物・乳製品は必要に応じてそのつど買うしかない。無知な私 は、スーパーの配達制度を勘違いしていた。「週に最低£40 以上か£60以上買わないと届けてくれない」と。独り者の私 は、新鮮な食料をそんなに消費しないのである。おたおたし ている内に、delivery slotなるものの余裕が無くなり、やが て、どこのスーパーも、新しい客を締め出した。 気が付くと、アパート管理人の事務所の向かいにある掲示 板に、’Don’t spread virus, spread love’と言う小さな紙が 貼られてあった。「話し相手が必要な人」「買い物が必要な 人」「薬を薬局に取りに行けない人」「手紙の投函ができな い人」などがおおよその内容で、４～６項目くらい書かれて あり、全て無料で支援します、との事。管理人に尋ねると、既 に、数人が問い合わせをしていると言う。私も早速電話で問 い合わせをした。私が、自分の置かれている状況を説明すると、’No problem.’との返事。彼女は、自分のお金で私の必 要とする物を買って来てくれると言う。「それでは、私は彼女 にどう返金すればよいのか？」再び、’No problem.’と言う。 そして彼女は、私に、彼女の銀行口座番号など個人情報を 教えてくれ、ネットでの現金振込方法を教えてくれたのであ る。私は、「この人は、見も知らない私をこんなにも信用しく れ、助けてくれようとしている。」と思い、すっかり感心してし まった。だいぶ前、’Jimmy’ll fix it’というTV番組があり、子 供の困った事を全て解決してくれるおじさんが居る番組があ ったのを思い出した。(残念ながら、後になって、この人は、 子供を性的に悪用したかどで逮捕された、が。) Charlotteに相談すると、全てがスラスラと解決する。’Charlotte will fix it’ の印象であった。こうして、彼女は、最初の 言葉通り、毎週、私の買い物をして届けてくれ、他のアパー トの人達も大変お世話になって来ている。 それでも、もう自己隔離１２週間が過ぎ、私は、ここで独立 し、手袋とマスクをして買物に出掛けることを決意した。こ の先、しばらくは、「ウイルスと共に生きなければならない」 と科学者は言うし、「自分で動ける内は、出来るだけひとさ まに迷惑を掛けたくない、」と言うのが本音なのである。

We arrived at North Cyprus on 12th March for 3 weeks holiday and due to go back on 2nd April. Cyprus lock down started few days after we had a lovely time with our friends in their apartment. We did 15 days self isolation followed by the curfew 9pm to 6am.
A week later an ambulance and police car outside our friend Keith’s and his apartment was sealed off. Ambulance crews worn the masks/groves and white outfit. We had a mighty shock that our friend Keith died, he was only 62 years old. My wife was so worried he might died by coronavirus.
Our flight go back to UK was cancelled and no more flights in April/May. Travel insurance and Visa runs out on 11th April so we were a bit of panic. On top of this we were not able to go out. Some local helped us for shopping’s We tried contact to the travel insurance, airline and North Cyprus immigration. We use all our phone allowance over £100!!! and most time listening the music, it is still ringing in my ear !!!! British High Commission announced another Repatriation flight on 2nd May. These rescue flights only give us 24 hours as we were in North (Turkish side) so no way we can arrange few things before cross the border (Green Line ) to South (Greek side). However this last one give us 48 hours so we jumped in and reserved two seats. But to organise to get to border was nightmare.
1 wait till airline to accept our reservation.
2 need Police permission go out in Curfew and get to border before 6 am. These rescue flights always leave in early mornings.
3 organise the Taxi to get to the border. Taxi driver need the police permission as well.
4 have to be the check point by 6 am.
Waited till 9 pm on, we had a phone call to say that we secured the seat , tried to find the Taxi driver after 9 pm inside restricted time zone. and who was willing to take us to the border under the curfew.
We found the driver after many phone calls to local taxi co after 11pm!! His name was Imram who used to live in London for so many years and speak a good English. Imran‘s taxi arrive at our apartment at 4:30 am. it was still dark. We locked up the place and hurried to loaded our luggage. The road was empty. We were worried that the police would stop our taxi. We found out Imran know where the police road blocks were.
We got to the check point 05:30 am. At Greek side of check point after passes Turkish passport control, there two officials from British H.C and one high ranking Army British military base in Cyprus next to this check point greeted us and helped us to board the coach. We set off to Larnaca airport escorted by British Army at 7 am. There were only 50 passengers on this repatriation flight, only one occupied all three seast and given a mask plus one bottle of small water each for 4 hours flight.
We safely arrived at London Heathrow airport. Another surprise was no body wearing mask and no check at LHR!!!! We were wearing the mask all the time in Cyprus for 2 months when we are outside, this was new law there.
It was like a movie such as escape from war torn country in dark early morning escorted Army. This holiday we never forget in life time 111111 S Watanabe……..MEMBR 601
